Parker Water & Sanitation District held an open house with a self-guided driving tour of the new Rueter-Hess reservoir on August 7th 2010. Participants were allowed to drive on the dam, view the outlet works and the reservoir, then drive to the bottom of the dam before exiting. It included an area to stop and find out about plans for the reservoir and surrounding area. Many cars completed the driving tour. It looks like there is a lot of interest in the reservoir
.
The plans on the map show a championship public golf course, regional park, disc golf, dog park, habitat preserve, nature center, swim beach, boat launch (nonmotorized boats), fishing, and many trails.
The habitat preserve area shows pedestrian/hiking, biking, equestrian, and overlooks.

On Feb. 24, 2010 the State Engineers Office of Dam Safety approved a request by Parker Water and Sanitation District to allow the first water to be stored in Rueter-Hess. before the approval, water within Newlin Gulch was pumped around the construction site. With the approval, the water will be stored behind the dam.
The approval allows for water to be stored to a depth of 43 feet, which will allow up to 5,000 acre-feet of water.
While construction of the dam is not slated to be complete until February 2012, storing water now will save the district money and allow for future use of that water to district customers.

Parker Water & Sanitation District hosted the official groundbreaking for the Rueter-Hess Reservoir on September 5th 2004 and included reservoir partners: The Town of Castle Rock, Castle Pines North Metro District, and the Stonegate Valley Metropolitan District. The ceremony is the official groundbreaking for the Rueter-Hess Reservoir expansion.
Anticipated completion of Rueter-Hess Project is late 2011 or 2012 depending on winter conditions.
Rueter-Hess
Rueter-Hess Reservoir water will be used by residents of Parker for everyday water needs, to replenish the underground aquifer, and as a reserve for better water management during a drought.

Rueter-Hess Recreation:
The plans for Rueter-Hess call for recreation including parks, trails, fishing and non-motorized boats. While PWSD may never construct all of the improvements shown in the plan, trails are a requirement of both the Federal permit as well as the County permit. At a minimum Parker Water and Sanitation District (PWSD) will have trails that connect to other regional trails currently constructed or planned by adjoining developments.
